Dr. Katie Lacy
Dr. Katie Lacy grew up with a veterinarian for an aunt which exposed her to veterinary medicine from a young age. From “helping” with exams on her childhood dog, Shadow, to listening to interesting cases over Thanksgiving dinners! While in high school, Dr. Lacy was able to watch surgeries with her aunt, this is where her love for veterinary medicine first began.
As she grew up, her interest in the field only increased as she learned more about the science and biology of the animals that she had always loved. UK’s College of Agriculture is what first brought her to the Bluegrass state, where she graduated with her Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Sciences. After college, she went back to Michigan to attend Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she obtained her DVM. “While my true passion will always be working with dogs, cats, and their families, my favorite clinical rotation in veterinary school was Zoo medicine,” Dr. Lacy said. Here she was able to spend 3 weeks stepping out of her comfort zone.
She worked with lions, cheetahs, snakes, and even being able to see a baby giraffe (her favorite animal) on an ultrasound. “Although I have enjoyed my time in Michigan, I truly fell in love with Central Kentucky and its people while in college and am so excited to be living in Lexington once again,” she added. She shares her home with her boyfriend, Jason, and their two dogs – a sweet Jack Russell mix named Luna and a spunky Whippet mix named Eli. In her downtime, Dr. Lacy loves going for hikes, being out on the water, and just being outdoors in general.
