Dr. Sullivan (“Sully”) recalls when she was 5 years-old how she loved playing with her black Labrador Retriever, Pepper, and the “critters” on her grandmother’s farm. “Those trips to the farm definitely sparked my love for animals. I have always had a tender heart for the hurting and sick. This passion is what drove me to a career of caring for others.”
The next step in Dr. Sully’s career came when she was 14 and volunteered in a veterinary hospital. Then it was off to Western Kentucky University, where she majored in animal science and biology. In 2012, upon graduation from the Tuskegee University in Alabama, Ashley Sullivan became Dr. Ashley Sullivan, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
“My mom has always shown me the importance of hard work and achieving my goals and dreams. She was so supportive in making my dream of becoming a veterinarian come true.”
Dr. Katie Lacy grew up with a veterinarian for an aunt which exposed her to veterinary medicine from a young age. From “helping” with exams on her childhood dog, Shadow, to listening to interesting cases over Thanksgiving dinners! While in high school, Dr. Lacy was able to watch surgeries with her aunt, this is where her love for veterinary medicine first began.
As she grew up, her interest in the field only increased as she learned more about the science and biology of the animals that she had always loved. UK’s College of Agriculture is what first brought her to the Bluegrass state, where she graduated with her Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Sciences. After college, she went back to Michigan to attend Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she obtained her DVM.
